WELCOME TO SYI
SUMMER YOUTH INITIATIVE
The Mr. Hattiesburg Foundation, partnering with parent company Hattiesburg Management Group, brings community & business leaders together for one common goal, OUR YOUTH.
Through SYI, youth in the inner city who are living in poverish neighborhoods are able to enjoy positive recreational and educational activities, as well as hear from successful people, experience trips out of the city limits, and learn about different industries through job shadowing.
SYI is broken into two phases:
Phase 1: The Water Fund
Phase 2: The Hangout Center
The Water Fund ensures that every child can swim for free at the city's swimming pools. The city has 2 swimming pools where inner city kids can walk to enjoy some water fun. All pools have life guards. Through the water funds, we not only ensure kids swim for free, but we provide armed security to make sure kids are protected, drinks to make sure kids stay hydrated & snacks to ensure kids have energy.
The Hangout Center project is a safe place where kids can go and simply be kids. It includes an activity space for youth activities, an arcade so that kids can enjoy arcade games including PS4's and xbox's, a lounge where kids can simply hang out and talk to friends, a snack bar so kids are never hungry or thirsty. Through the hangout center, kids can learn about different jobs through job shadowing, sign up to take field trips to some amazing places around the country, and hear from successful people incredible stories. The HC also has staff and armed security to ensure kids are safe.
